Empowering Gingin Shire Youth - YME YNot Launch & Connecting Youth Expo

The Shire of Gingin is pleased to announce the launch of the Youth Micro-Enterprise Project (YME YNot?) which is designed to empower young entrepreneurs, future business owners, employers and employees within the Shire.

YME YNot? is aimed at young people between 10 – 25 years of age to improve their access and exposure to micro-entrepreneurship opportunities, mentorship, business development services, training and education. It also aims to strengthen capacity of local stakeholders to support young entrepreneurs in starting and growing their own businesses.

  • Shire of Gingin.


The YME YNot? Project commenced in January 2025 and will run for 12 months. During this time a range of youth-focussed activities will be undertaken, including the Connecting Youth Expo which will be held in Gingin on Wednesday 16 April 2025 during National Youth Week.

A Youth Advisory Group consisting of GDHS student councillors has been formed to work with the Shire and community partners to develop and deliver youth enterprise capacity building skills.

The Connecting Youth Expo is a family-friendly event which will include music and entertainment, skate, dance and karate workshops, Monsterball amusements, Open Mic, basketball hoop competition, and lots of other fun activities.

A wide range of food and coffee vans will also be available on the day and young attendees will have opportunities to win an iPad, AirPods and vouchers.

“We are delighted to be supporting this project alongside our community partners,” said Shire President, Linda Balcombe. “We deeply value our young people and want to provide them with opportunities and incentives to remain within our community and succeed at whatever career they choose.

“Everyone is welcome to attend the Connecting Youth Expo in April and we look forward to seeing our young people, their families and our community there on the day.”
