What's my rubbish collection day?
Across the Shire your rubbish bin collection day will vary depending upon which area you live in. Where rubbish collection days fall on a public holiday it will be collected as normal with the exception of Christmas Day only.
To work out your rubbish collection day (both general waste and recycling) please view a copy of the Shire's Recycling Calendar below.
When can I put my bin out?
Bins need to be placed on the kerb by 6.00am on the morning of your collection day to ensure your bins are collected.
Where should I place my bins for collection?
- Bins need to be placed on the kerb with unobstructed access.
- Bins should face the road with the handles facing your property.
- If you have more than one general waste/recycling bin it is important to place the bins at least 50cms apart to ensure there is no interference with the collection arm.
Why was my bin not emptied?
Please note: your bin will only be serviced if it is the Shire of Gingin bin delivered by Avon Waste.
Reasons why a bin may not be emptied:
- Bins were not placed out on time.
- Bins may have been obstructed by parked cars or trees.
- Bin was overweight - the maximum weight of your bin for collection is 70kg.
- Unacceptable items have been placed in the bin.
- Rubbish is stuck in the bin, causing the rubbish not to empty when the bin is tipped. Foam, polystyrene and grass clippings are common causes for this.
Remember the general waste and recycling bins are not necessarily collected at the same time of day.
Please contact Avon Waste directly on (08) 9641 1318 if your bin was missed.
What can't I place in the general waste bin?
- Hot or burning ashes.
- Batteries.
- Bricks, rocks and soil.
- Paints, hazardous material, solvents or liquid waste.
How do I get a rubbish bin?

Waste Reform Information
Commencing 4 January 2025, the Shire commenced Phase 1 of its Waste Reform program which involves the implementation of a new waste facility pass system.
As part of this phase, all Shire of Gingin ratepayers/residents will have now received their new reusable plastic waste facility pass which can be used at the Shire's three waste facility sites (Gingin, Seabird and Lancelin), however there are changes as to how we will be managing waste at these sites going forward.
More information on these changes and how they will affect you is provided below.
If you have any queries, please contact our Environmental Health team on (08) 9575 5100 or mail@gingin.wa.gov.au.
Is the number on my new waste facility pass the same as my property assessment number?
No - the number on your new waste facility pass will not match your property assessment number, even though they may both start with an 'A'. For example, if your property assessment number is A9265, your waste facility pass may display something like A0576 – this number is a system generated number that is put onto the cards as a back up should the barcode not work.
But rest assured! The number on your pass is fully linked to your property assessment, so everything is properly connected behind the scenes.
