Shire President Linda Balcombe and Acting CEO Les Crichton were pleased to represent the Shire of Gingin at the official opening of the new bowling green at the Lancelin Bowling Club on Wednesday 27 November.

The green is the final synthetic green to be installed within the Shire, which means all the clubs in the Moore Bowling League now have synthetic greens for their members to play on - which is a great result for the League and all clubs within the League.

MC for the ceremony was Lancelin Bowling Club President, John Ryan who welcomed everyone and introduced guest speakers:

  • Darren West MLC – Member for the Agricultural Region
  • Mr Shane Love MLA & Leader of the Nationals WA
  • Mr David Roe – Chairman, Community Bank Gingin & Lancelin
  • Cr Linda Balcombe – Shire President

Also in attendance was Ms Kim Sharpe representing the Wheatbelt Regional Office for the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSCI) who has been a major financial supporter of the bowling green project. The State Government, through the DLGSCI, is a major supporter of community sport and recreation facilities in WA and is committed to building stronger, healthier, happier, and safer communities: 'and when we play sport our whole community wins'.

The Shire has been pleased to be one of the major financial supporters of the project along with the DLGSCI, the Lancelin Bowling Club, and the Community Bank Gingin & Lancelin.

Acknowledgement and thanks were extended to all the major supporters, the local businesses and individuals who committed pledges and donations toward the project, as well as to all the local contractors, tradespeople, professionals, community members and bowling members who gave hundreds of hours of their time and labour.

Special thanks and acknowledgement went to Lancelin Bowling Club President, John Ryan for his commitment to the Club, for taking on the role as project manager, and undertaking a substantial amount of work himself.

Cr Balcombe officially declared the bowling green open and to commemorate its opening, Life and Foundation Members Norm Skoglund, Graham Williams, Pat Williams and Foundation Member Julie Skoglund were invited to bowl the first bowls on the new green.

Congratulations to the Lancelin Bowling Club and Lancelin community on a successful project, and thanks again to everyone involved – it’s a great outcome for the Upper Coastal Region!

Special thanks to Elle Armitage from Community Bank Gingin and Lancelin for taking and providing us with the fantastic photos.
