The Shire of Gingin would like express heartfelt thanks and acknowledgement to everyone involved in containing the recent Ledge Point and Bambun (Airfield Road) fires.
“On behalf of the Shire, I extend my deepest gratitude to everyone involved in the containment of the recent Bambun and Ledge Point bushfires,” said Shire President, Linda Balcombe. “I am very proud of the community, Shire staff, Councillors and external agencies who were involved in both fires - your collective efforts in the face of challenging conditions have once again demonstrated the strength and resilience of our community and its partners.
“We are immensely relieved to report that no residential properties were lost during these incidents. While approximately 2,850 hectares were burnt across both fires, the damage was limited to one outbuilding—a machinery shed in Bambun.”
The Shire of Gingin would like to acknowledge and thank the following agencies and community groups for their role in the response:
- Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES)
- State Emergency Service (SES)
- Department of Communities
- Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions
- WA Police
- St John Ambulance
- Western Power
- Water Corporation
- Main Roads WA
- Salvation Army WA Emergency Services
- Lancelin Community & Sporting Club
- IGA Lancelin
- CWA Lancelin
- Ledge Point General Store
- Gull Gingin
Cr Balcombe added: “The Shire of Gingin shares a strong, collaborative relationship with the Metro North Coastal region of DFES, and the professionalism displayed by the DFES team and supporting agencies was integral to the successful containment outcome.
“To our incredible local and regional volunteer bush fire brigade members and the Volunteer Fire and Rescue teams who travelled from across the Metropolitan and Midwest Gascoyne regions to bravely confront these fires under demanding conditions— words cannot express our gratitude. You’ve been the backbone of this response and we are very thankful for your service.
“Our appreciation also extends to the private contractors who supplied heavy machinery and water carting services, as well as all other individuals, local businesses and community groups who stepped up to support Ledge Point and the Bambun area through this emergency and into the recovery phase. Your contributions are deeply appreciated.”
Shire CESM Evan Lawrence added: “As we move forward, our dedicated volunteer firefighters will continue to monitor and patrol both firegrounds in the coming days and into next week, ensuring the safety of our community remains paramount.
“While summer has officially ended, I’d like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that our region is still experiencing above-average daytime and overnight temperatures, coupled with low soil moisture and dry, degraded vegetation. These conditions mean the bushfire risk remains elevated. I urge our community to stay vigilant by maintaining firebreaks and keeping properties and townsites bushfire safe. Your proactive efforts can make all the difference. “
